Assassination of Fermín Asparrent by PCP Sendero Luminoso
In September 1989, the mayor of Huamanga, Fermín Asparrent, was assassinated by the PCP Sendero Luminoso. This event was part of a series of violent acts during a period of intense conflict in Peru, marked by attacks and sabotage by subversive groups. The violence in the region eventually subsided following the capture of Abimael Guzmán and the signing of a peace agreement.
El PCP Sendero Luminoso asesinó al alcalde provincial de Huamanga, Fermín Asparrent, en septiembre de 1989, siendo uno de los crímenes de mayor impacto en la zona. Poco después fue asesinado también el alcalde de Ocros. Este crimen fue parte de una serie de actos violentos que caracterizaron el período de la lucha contrainsurgente en la ciudad de Huamanga.
