Assassination of Julio Orozco Huamaní
In August 1983, Julio Orozco Huamaní, the secretary general of the Federation of Campesinos of the Valley of the Apurímac River, was assassinated at the Hacienda Lusiana, a base of the Peruvian Navy. This event marked a significant escalation in the violence in the region, leading to the disbandment of the federation, which had been a key player in agrarian reforms. The assassination was part of broader military actions in the area, which saw increased violence and the involvement of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso.
