End of the Japanese Embassy Hostage Crisis
The Japanese Embassy hostage crisis, which began in December 1996, reached its conclusion in April 1997. The crisis ended with a military operation known as Operation Chavín de Huántar, which resulted in the deaths of several hostages and members of the insurgent group. The operation was a significant event in Peru's history, highlighting the ongoing political violence and the role of the military in addressing such crises.
La toma de la embajada de Japón llegó a su fin, generando varias muertes. Los días más intensos de la crisis de rehenes se produjeron en marzo. Al interior de las Fuerzas Armadas se disputaba la autoría del plan de rescate de rehenes de la residencia del embajador japonés, siendo el General Nicolás Hermoza Ríos quien posteriormente presentó un libro sobre la operación Chavín de Huántar relacionada con este evento.
