Slaughter in San Pedro and El Frontón prisons
In June 1986, a violent crackdown occurred in the Peruvian prisons of San Pedro and El Frontón, where numerous prisoners accused of terrorism were killed. The most severe actions took place at El Frontón, where the Navy's Demolition Unit destroyed the Blue Pavilion, housing 150 subversives. The government acknowledged excesses and ordered military justice to investigate the events, leading to political repercussions, including the resignation of the Minister of Justice.
Se confirmó la matanza de numerosos presos acusados de terrorismo en los penales de San Pedro (Lurigancho) y El Frontón. Las acciones más graves ocurrieron en El Frontón, donde la Unidad de Demolición de la Marina destruyó el Pabellón Azul en el que estaban recluidos 150 subversivos, y en Santa Bárbara murieron dos subversivos el 19 de junio. La Secretaría de Prensa de la Presidencia reconoció que «hubo excesos» el 21 de junio, y el gobierno ordenó que la justicia militar realizara las investigaciones necesarias. El presidente Alan García Pérez pidió sanción para los responsables y renuncia el ministro de Justicia, Luis Gonzáles Posada.
