Massacre in Pucayacu and Human Rights Advocacy by Leonor Zamora Concha
In 1984, Leonor Zamora Concha, then mayor of Huamanga, publicly accused the Marines of being responsible for the deaths of 50 Ayacucho residents, whose bodies were found in a mass grave in Pucayacu. During her tenure, she also facilitated the investigation of other killings in the region, including the discovery of six bodies in Ñeque and three young girls in Infiernillo. Her advocacy for human rights continued beyond her mayoral term, culminating in international denunciations of human rights violations in Peru.
Entre 1983 y 1985, Leonor Zamora Concha ejerció como alcaldesa de Huamanga caracterizándose por su defensa de los derechos humanos en Ayacucho. En 1984, responsabilizó públicamente a los Infantes de Marina acantonados en el Estadio Municipal de Huanta por la muerte de 50 pobladores cuyos cadáveres fueron encontrados en una fosa común en Pucayacu. Durante su gestión también facilitó el levantamiento de otros cadáveres encontrados en Ñeque y Infiernillo, y se enfrentó al General Adrián Huamán Centeno por la detención del alcalde de Chuschi. Años después, en 1988, viajó a Francia para denunciar públicamente las violaciones a derechos humanos en Perú, actividad por la que presuntamente fue asesinada por miembros del Grupo Paramilitar Colina.
