Assassination of Orestes Rodríguez Campos and Oscar Rodríguez Kadota
In April 1996, several individuals were convicted for their involvement in terrorist activities linked to the assassination of political leader Orestes Rodríguez Campos and his son Oscar Rodríguez Kadota. These acts were carried out by the PCP-SL as part of a systematic campaign to instill fear and unrest among the population. The Supreme Court of Justice confirmed the responsibility of the accused but increased their sentences from ten to fifteen years of imprisonment.
En abril de 1996, fueron condenados cuatro miembros del Destacamento Especial Nº 03 del PCP-SL por participación en diversos atentados terroristas vinculados al asesinato de Orestes Rodríguez Campos. La Corte Suprema de Justicia confirmó las responsabilidades de los procesados e incrementó la pena de diez a quince años de privación de libertad. La Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación condenó y deploró estos asesinatos, que fueron ejecutados por el PCP-SL de manera calculada, generalizada y sistemática para causar terror y zozobra entre la población.
