Human Rights Violations in Huanta
In 1984, Jaime Ayala was a victim of human rights violations allegedly ordered by the Commander of the Marine Infantry Detachment in Huanta, known as 'Camión'. Ayala was detained and interrogated after attempting to address grievances related to a military operation. Despite orders from higher authorities to release him, the Commander denied having Ayala in custody.
Un ex infante de Marina testificó ante la CVR sobre violaciones a los derechos humanos cometidas contra Jaime Ayala en Huanta durante 1984. Según el testimonio, el Comandante 'Camión', jefe del Destacamento de Infantería de Marina, ordenó la detención y tortura de Ayala cuando este llegó a reclamar por un operativo militar. El comandante ocultó la detención incluso a sus superiores, rechazando las órdenes de su comando de entregar al detenido, argumentando que había sido enviado a combatir y no desde un escritorio.
