PCP-SL Incursion in Río Kiatari and Río Ene
In 1989, the Shining Path (PCP-SL) insurgents entered the Río Kiatari community, attacking and looting homes, and killing leaders. Many families fled, but some returned after the community organized self-defense patrols. Concurrently, in Río Ene, the PCP-SL imposed strict control, restricting river transport and forcibly recruiting community members, including children, leading to significant displacement and suffering.
En Río Kiatari, aproximadamente 60 senderistas entraron en 1989 para allanar casas, matar dirigentes y saquear, provocando el desplazamiento de familias.
