PCP-SL Control and Liberation of Centro Tsomabeni
In 1989, the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path (PCP-SL) exerted control over the community of Centro Tsomabeni in the Ene River Valley. The community was subjected to forced recruitment, servitude, and indoctrination by the PCP-SL. Eventually, a captive managed to escape and alert military forces, who, along with local ronderos, liberated the community.
En 1989, el PCP-SL llegó a la comunidad de Centro Tsomabeni en el río Ene, asesinando al jefe que se opuso a sus planes. Aproximadamente 100 senderistas tomaron la comunidad exigiendo apoyo para su lucha, controlando todas las salidas del valle e implantando un régimen de reclutamiento forzoso, servidumbre y esclavitud. Un cautivo logró escapar y alertó a los efectivos militares, quienes junto a 60 ronderos finalmente liberaron a Tsomabeni del control senderista.
