Torture and Detention in Peru
In 1988, individuals were subjected to severe torture and inhumane treatment in the Province of Chupaca, Peru. Victims were hung by their feet, submerged in dirty water, and burned with hot wood while being interrogated about the whereabouts of insurgents. Detained without communication, they endured harsh conditions, including being thrown into the Cunas River at night.
Un detenido relata treinta y un días de torturas sistemáticas que incluían ahogamiento, quemaduras en la boca, arrojamiento al río y privación de alimento. Fue trasladado sucesivamente al cuartel de 9 de Diciembre de Huancayo donde estuvo ocho días, y posteriormente a DINCOTE donde permaneció veinte días incomunicado. Durante todo este período sus familiares desconocían su paradero y temían que hubiera sido asesinado.
