Haircutting as a form of degrading treatment
In 1982, in the community of Parco Alto, a group of 30 to 40 members of the PCP-SL entered a woman's home and detained her and her baby. They attempted to shoot her, but when the gun failed, they resorted to torturing her by cutting off her hair with razors. This act was part of a broader pattern of degrading treatment against women, particularly targeting their cultural identity.
El corte de pelo fue una modalidad de trato degradante infligido contra las mujeres por miembros del PCP-SL, aprovechando el impacto emocional que causaba en mujeres campesinas que tradicionalmente usaban el cabello en largas trenzas como parte de su identidad cultural. Esta práctica fue muy común durante los juicios populares. Testimonios documentan casos en Parco Alto (Huancavelica, 1982) donde senderistas cortaron el cabello de una mujer con navajas, y en Huamanquiquia (Ayacucho) donde mujeres fueron encerradas y cortadas de cabello mientras las pateaban y empujaban.
