Killing of Julián by the Peruvian Army
On the night of February 22, 1997, a patrol from the Peruvian Army forcibly entered the home of Julián, violently assaulting him before he attempted to flee. As he ran, the soldiers shot him, hitting him with five bullets in the head and waist, resulting in his death. His wife, Maruja, witnessed the event and was prevented from approaching his body by the soldiers.
Una patrulla del Ejército Peruano llegó a la casa de Julián el sábado 22 de febrero de 1997 alrededor de las 22:00 horas. Los soldados rompieron la puerta, ingresaron violentamente al domicilio y agredieron a Julián con golpes y patadas. Cuando Julián intentó huir a aproximadamente 15 metros de distancia, los soldados le dispararon cinco balas que impactaron en su cabeza y cintura. Su esposa Maruja presenció el suceso y fue impedida por los militares de acercarse al cuerpo de su esposo.
