First Armed Action of PCP-SL in the Huallaga
The first armed action of the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path (PCP-SL) in the Huallaga region occurred in 1982 with an attack on the Police Forestry post in Pucayacu. This event marked the beginning of PCP-SL's active presence in the region, which was characterized by a complex interplay of political and economic factors. The group's influence grew as they capitalized on the local population's discontent with state repression, particularly in the context of anti-narcotics operations.
El PCP-SL comenzó su presencia en el Alto Huallaga aproximadamente seis años después del inicio del apogeo de la droga en 1974-1975. La huelga de cocaleros en 1981, en respuesta a los operativos anti-narcóticos Verde Mar I y II, marcó la primera presencia oculta de cuadros senderistas. El movimiento se asentó en tres zonas principales para organizar el campo: dos en la margen izquierda del río Huallaga, incluyendo los caseríos de Venenillo, La Merced, Locro, Corvina y Los Cedros que conformaron el "Bolsón Cuchara", y otra zona en San José de Pucate, San Martín de Pucate y Primavera.
