Death of Edith Lagos
In September 1982, Edith Lagos, a leader of the Shining Path (PCP-SL), was killed in a confrontation with the police. Her death led to one of the largest public gatherings in the 1980s, with significant participation from the university community. Lagos became a symbol of rebellion in Ayacucho, representing the idealism and sacrifice for a cause, which was later overshadowed by the violent actions of the Shining Path.
En septiembre de 1982, Edith Lagos, líder del PCP-Sendero Luminoso, muere en un enfrentamiento con la policía. Su entierro genera una de las mayores concentraciones públicas de la década de los 80, con participación significativa de miembros de la comunidad universitaria de Ayacucho. Edith Lagos, procedente de una familia acomodada con rasgos mestizos típicamente ayacuchanos, se convierte en símbolo de rebeldía ayacuchana tras haber sido perseguida, encarcelada y liberada. El PCP-SL capitaliza su muerte como personificación del ideal revolucionario y la entrega por una causa.
