Resistance and Formation of CAD in Caimito
In November 1989, the native community of Caimito resisted an incursion by the PCP-SL, refusing to organize under their influence due to their non-involvement in coca cultivation. The intervention of German anthropologist Bruno Illius helped prevent further insistence from the PCP-SL. Subsequently, the community formed a self-defense group (CAD) to protect against future incursions and later collaborated with other local groups to combat subversion and crime.
En noviembre de 1989, PCP-SL incursionó en la comunidad nativa de Caimito obligando a la población a organizarse. Los comuneros se negaron a colaborar porque no sembraban coca y rechazaban que se llevaran a sus jóvenes. La intervención del antropólogo alemán Bruno Illius, residente en la comunidad, fue decisiva para que los senderistas no insistieran. A partir de entonces, Caimito formó una ronda de vigilancia que posteriormente se convirtió en subbase del CAD de Puerto Alegre en 1991, con el objetivo de vigilar y combatir la presencia de PCP-SL en el lago Imiria.
