Incursion of PCP-SL into Mariscal Cáceres
In June 1989, members of the Shining Path (PCP-SL) entered the Cashibo community of Mariscal Cáceres in Padre Abad, Peru. They attempted to persuade the local indigenous population to form committees and join their armed struggle. The community, valuing their peace and autonomy, refused to comply with the demands of the insurgents, leading to the withdrawal of the Shining Path without conflict.
La primera incursión del PCP-SL a Mariscal Cáceres, comunidad Cashibo, ocurrió en junio de 1989. Los senderistas llegaron desde Bellavista y reunieron a los hombres adultos de la comunidad en la escuela, exigiéndoles que se organizaran y siguieran sus leyes. Los nativos se negaron rotundamente y los senderistas se retiraron. Previamente, el clan dominante de los Bolívar y el mando político de Bellavista habían establecido un pacto de no agresión con los nativos que incluía la entrega de tierras comunales.
