Resistance and Repression in Quempiri
In Quempiri, some families hid their children in the forest to prevent them from being recruited by the PCP-SL for warfare. This act of resistance carried significant risks, including severe physical punishment or death. Those caught were often executed in a brutal manner, and the community was forced to celebrate these killings, highlighting the oppressive environment under the PCP-SL's influence.
En Quempiri, familias desarrollaron formas de resistencia cotidiana como ocultar alimentos y esconder a sus hijos en el monte para evitar que fueran reclutados por el PCP-SL. Estas acciones implicaban gran riesgo, siendo castigadas con mutilación o ejecución. Los mandos obligaban a los pelotones y familias a presenciar y celebrar los asesinatos de infractores. Las condiciones de hambruna causaban desnutrición grave en niños, quienes comían tierra y morían, sobreviviendo solo los más fuertes.
