Attack on Vilcashuamán Police Post
On August 22, 1982, a detachment of the PCP-SL attacked the police post of the Guardia Civil in Vilcashuamán. The confrontation lasted five hours, resulting in the deaths of seven police officers. This event was part of a series of violent actions by the PCP-SL in the region during that period.
El 22 de agosto de 1982, miembros del PCP-SL atacan el puesto de la Guardia Civil ubicado en Vilcashuamán. Los enfrentamientos se prolongaron durante cinco horas, dejando como saldo siete policías fallecidos. Ante la gravedad del atentado, el ministro del Interior, general José Gagliardi Schiaffino, y el jefe de la Guardia Civil, general Humberto Catter Arredondo, se desplazaron a Vilcashuamán inmediatamente después del ataque.
