End of Subversive Violence in Cuzco
In October 1993, two significant events marked the symbolic end of subversive violence in Cuzco. On October 8, General Petronio Fernández Dávila declared that the region was practically free of subversive elements and encouraged militants to take advantage of the 'law of repentance'. Later, on October 20, the military distributed shotguns and ammunition to nine self-defense committees in the province of Paucartambo. These actions contributed to a significant reduction in violence in the region.
En octubre de 1993 ocurren dos eventos que marcan simbólicamente el final del ciclo de violencia en Cuzco. El 8 de octubre, el General Petronio Fernández Dávila declara que en la región Inca prácticamente ya no hay elementos subversivos e invita a militantes de organizaciones subversivas a acogerse a la ley de arrepentimiento. El 20 de octubre, el mando militar entrega escopetas y municiones a nueve Comités de autodefensa de la provincia de Paucartambo. Desde 1994 casi no se registran víctimas del conflicto armado interno en la ciudad del Cuzco, las provincias altas y La Convención.
