Attack on Minero Perú in the Gavilán de Oro Mine
On October 10, 1989, the Shining Path (PCP-SL) attacked the Minero Perú installations at the Gavilán de Oro mine in the district of Ananea, resulting in the deaths of 9 police officers and a private security guard. The attack also claimed the lives of the district's deputy mayor and governor. On the same day, a confrontation in the district of Antauta, province of Melgar, led to the deaths of 14 Shining Path members.
El 10 de octubre de 1989, el PCP-SL atacó las instalaciones de Minero Perú en la mina Gavilán de Oro ubicada en el distrito de Ananea, en la provincia de San Antonio de Putina. En el ataque murieron 9 policías y un vigilante particular, así como el teniente alcalde y el gobernador del distrito. El mismo día se produjo un enfrentamiento adicional en el distrito de Antauta, provincia de Melgar, donde murieron 14 senderistas.
