Adoption of the Rome Statute

Adoption of the Rome Statute criminalizing crimes against humanity and war crimes.

In 1998, the Statute of the International Criminal Court (Rome Statute) was adopted, to which Peru has been a party since 2001. This Statute made substantial progress in the criminalization of crimes against humanity and war crimes. Crimes against humanity are those derived from a systematic and generalized practice. The grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions were incorporated and ordered to specify the jurisdiction of the Court.
