MRTA confrontations in Chanchamayo until 1998.

The MRTA maintained a presence in Chanchamayo from its withdrawal from the Mantaro Valley until 1998, engaging in constant confrontations with the Army, which gradually decimated them until their virtual disappearance from the area.

After its defeat in the Mantaro valley in 1989, the MRTA retreated to the province of Chanchamayo where it managed to rebuild its ranks. During the period up to 1998, the subversive group engaged in constant confrontations with military patrols in which deaths were recorded on both sides. Gradually, the Army decimated the MRTA and reduced the territorial space where they operated. By 1998, MRTA had practically disappeared from the area, marking the end of its armed presence in the region.
