Inter-American Court ruling condemning the Peruvian State in the Castillo Paez case
Inter-American Court condemns Peru for forced disappearance of Ernesto Castillo Paez
The Inter-American Court of Human Rights condemned the Peruvian State for the detention and disappearance of Ernesto Castillo-Páez, affirming that Articles 4 (right to life), 5 (right to personal integrity), 7 (right to personal liberty) and 25 (judicial protection) of the American Convention, all in relation to Article 1, paragraph 1 (obligation to respect rights), had been violated. The Court stated that the Peruvian State was obliged to repair the consequences of these violations, compensate the victim's next of kin and investigate the facts.
