Police capture Carlos Salinas Galarza, who obtained getaway vehicle in Tumba Ortega murder
On July 7, 1997, the police captured Carlos Enrique Salinas Galarza, alias "José", at his home. When he gave his police statement, he admitted that he had belonged to the PCP-SL since the end of 1991 and that he belonged to the Southern Zonal Committee. He admitted his participation in the murder of PNP Colonel Manuel Tumba Ortega and that he obtained the car in which the attackers fled. He was transferred to the Special Military Court of the Peruvian Navy to be tried for treason.
