Capture of José Amalfi Vizcardo Cerruto, Zonal Sur Political Command.

On July 7, 1997, the Police captured Oscar Ricardo Pomiano Ramos, whose real identity was Jose Amalfi Vizcardo Cerruto alias 'Pedro' or 'Augusto', an important leader of the PCP-SL. In his statement he admitted having been Secretary or Political Commander of the Southern Zonal Committee between 1991 and 1993, and assumed political responsibility for all the subversive actions carried out in that zone, including the assassination of Colonel Manuel Tumba Ortega. He was transferred to the Special Military Court of the Peruvian Army.
