Operation Chavín de Huántar
Chavín de Huántar operation with evidence of executions of surrendered subversives
On April 22, 1997, the Chavin de Huantar operation allowed the release of the hostages that the MRTA held captive for 4 months in the residence of the Japanese ambassador. There are indications being investigated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of arbitrary executions of some MRTA subversives who surrendered or were captured alive at the end of the operation. The executions were allegedly carried out by members of the then National Intelligence Service.
