Capture of Camilo Santos Vera in Cajabamba
Capture of the Shining Path leader Camilo Santos Vera (alias "Camilo") in Cajabamba in August 1996, an operation that apparently disrupted the Northern Regional Command of the PCP-SL.
In August 1996, the police managed to capture Camilo Santos Vera, also known as Pedro Sánchez Flores or "Camilo", in the city of Cajabamba. This police intervention was the result of police intelligence work, where the information provided by some repentants was crucial. The capture of this important Shining Path leader apparently ended up disrupting the Northern Regional Command of the PCP-SL. This operation took place a little more than a year after the capture of 14 members of the Northern Regional Committee of the PCP-SL in Trujillo in June 1995, representing another decisive blow against the Shining Path structure in the region.
