Arrest and rape in Alto Chalhuayaco
A woman was detained by soldiers in Alto Chalhuayaco on May 18, 1996, taken to Chapi where a captain forced her to live in his house and raped her. As a result of the rape, she gave birth to a baby girl.
A female affiant was detained by soldiers who raided her community located in the department of San Martín in 1996. During her detention, a man accused her of being a terrorist but she was defended by a teacher who knew her, thanks to the help of a major. However, this major had her transferred back to Chapi where a captain sent her to live in his house. As a result of the rape, she gave birth to a girl. The declarant had previously been forced to join a Shining Path camp in 1983, in the Chaupimayo mountain, and upon returning to Chapi, fleeing persecution, she was captured by the military.
