Reduction of anti-subversive bases in La Libertad

In 1996, anti-subversive bases in La Libertad were reduced from 32 to 17, as a consequence of the decline of PCP-SL activity in the region. This reduction reflected the progressive defeat of the subversive organization after years of armed conflict.

In 1996, as part of the decline of PCP-SL subversive activity in the region, there was a significant reduction in the number of anti-subversive bases in the department of La Libertad. The number of bases was reduced from 32 in 1994 to 17 bases in 1996. This reduction was a consequence of the defeat of the PCP-SL after the capture of Abimael Guzmán, the Repentance Law, and the Army and Police offensive since 1992. Despite the reduction, a new base was created in Yaguada, Santiago de Chuco, indicating that there was still some residual activity that required military presence.
