In August 1995, there was an armed confrontation between the PCP-SL and the Quispincancha Self-Defense Committee (CAD), in the district of Iguain, province of Huanta. This event occurred in the context of the final phase of the internal armed conflict in the region. The confrontation is part of the history of violence in the Apurimac River valley, where the Civil Defense Committees played a major role as actors in the conflict alongside the armed forces and the Shining Path groups.
