On June 5, 1995, the DINCOTE captured 14 members of the Northern Regional Committee of the PCP-SL in Trujillo, dealing a decisive blow against the Shining Path structure in the region. Among those captured was Juana Perez, 'La Gringa', 28 years old, leader of the Regional Command who had directed the assassination of police commander Jose Figueroa Cacho in April of that year. Also arrested were Cleofé Tineo Berna, representative of the Jaén Base; Julio César Moreno Cruz, representative of Otuzco; Pedro Ganoza Acevedo and Fluvencio Carrasco Pechaco, delegates from Chiclayo; José Farfán Silva and Manuel Antonio Flores Corde from the Piura Military Command; Remigio Sánchez Valdez, representative of Amazonas; in addition to Gregorio Lavado Valverde ('Richard') and Wilfredo Campo Quispe, 39 years old, responsible for economy. This capture was the result of police intelligence work and the information provided by some repentant individuals was crucial.
