Armed conflict between Peru and Ecuador in the Cenepa region
At the beginning of the year, one of the most serious incidents occurs on the Peruvian-Ecuadorian border since January 1981. Several confrontations took place in the area of the Cenepa River in the Cordillera del Condor. Despite the dialogue initiated between the two countries, with the participation of the guarantors of the Rio Protocol, during January there is no sign of a definitive ceasefire. Information on military actions was very scarce.
