Law enforcement casualties in Upper Huallaga

In 1995, there was a new increase in law enforcement casualties, with 132 dead (104 army and 28 police), almost all of them concentrated in the upper Huallaga area.

In 1995 there was a significant increase in law enforcement casualties in the upper Huallaga area. According to information provided by the Joint Command of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior to the CVR, 132 law enforcement personnel died that year (104 from the Army and 28 from the Police Forces), representing 7.9% of the total number of casualties during the entire conflict. This increase occurred after the capture of Abimael Guzmán in 1992, when overall casualties had dropped significantly since 1993. Almost all of the 1995 casualties were from the Army and were concentrated specifically in the upper Huallaga area.
