Attack on Quiruvilca police station

PCP-SL attack that destroyed the Quiruvilca police post in Santiago de Chuco, with the aim of freeing five detained militants. The attack occurred during the phase of decline of the Shining Path activity in the region.

On September 18, 1994, the PCP-SL carried out an attack that left the Quiruvilca police post in the province of Santiago de Chuco in rubble. The objective of the attack was to try to free five of their comrades who were being held at the post. This attack took place in the context of the decline of Shining Path activity in the region, when the forces of law and order had achieved important captures of militants. The attack on Quiruvilca represents one of the last attempts by the PCP-SL to maintain its operational presence in the northern part of the department of La Libertad.
