Second phase of Operation Aries
Second phase of Operation Aries executed between mid-June and July 1994 in the Cuchara and Primavera pockets. The military commandos were directly accompanied by repentants who identified locations of PCP-SL committees and resources.
The second phase of Operation Aries took place from mid-June to July 1994 on the left bank of the Huallaga River. Unlike the first phase, which used only information from repentants, in this second phase the commandos were directly accompanied by repentants, who pointed out the location of the committees, weapons and other resources of the PCP-SL. The armed forces again distributed leaflets about Operation Aries, giving the population settled in the combat zone the opportunity to leave. This phase sought to consolidate military control over the Cuchara and Primavera pockets where the PCP-SL had established its last strongholds in the Upper Huallaga.
