Assassination of Manuel Barrientos García, Mayor of Sacsamarca
Manuel Barrientos García, mayor of Sacsamarca, was assassinated in June 1994 by hikers dressed as soldiers. This was one of the last acts of violence by the PCP-SL in the Huancasancos area.
In June 1994, Manuel Barrientos García, mayor of the Sacsamarca district, was assassinated by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso. The perpetrators dressed as military personnel to commit the crime. This assassination occurred almost as an isolated episode, being one of the last events of violence in the area, two years after the closing of the main cycle of violence in the area. The event took place in a context where the PCP-SL tried to stop the organization of Self-Defense Committees and attacked returnees and authorities that established relations with the Peruvian Army and the State.
