Operation Aries had to be stopped definitively on May 26, 1994 due to serious allegations of human rights violations received by the National Human Rights Coordinator (CNDDHH) and the Human Rights Commission of the Democratic Constituent Congress (CCD). After fifty days of encircling operations and captures that began on April 5, the anti-terrorist operation ended, according to the head of the Huallaga Front, Brigadier General EP Alfredo Rodríguez Riveros. In the final presentation, 23 of the 30 terrorists captured in the last operations were shown, together with a large amount of weapons, ammunition, medicines and documentation seized from the subversives. The operation had generated multiple reports of bombings, machine-gunning, rape, torture and extrajudicial executions of civilians in the villages of the area.
