Visit of the Attorney General to Venenillo during Operation Aries

The Prosecutor of the Nation, Blanca Nélida Colán, made an inspection visit to Venenillo and other towns in the area where Operation Aries was taking place, flying over the area by helicopter. During this visit, the Prosecutor stated that the allegations made by the National Human Rights Coordinator about alleged human rights violations by the armed forces were inaccurate. He stated that he had verified that the villages allegedly bombed and where a massacre was allegedly committed showed no evidence of such acts. This visit took place in the context of serious allegations of human rights violations during military operations against Sendero Luminoso on the left bank of the Huallaga River.
