CCD Commission Investigation of Operation Aries
The Human Rights Commission of the CCD investigated for three days (April 23-25, 1994) the allegations of human rights violations during Operation Aries, visiting Tingo Maria, Aucayacu, Anda, Moyuna and Moena, where they verified the existence of corpses.
The delegation of the Human Rights Commission of the Democratic Constituent Congress (CCD) traveled to Tingo Maria on April 23, 1994 to investigate allegations of human rights violations during Operation Aries. For three days (April 23, 24 and 25) the Commission received testimonies from affected persons in Tingo Maria, Aucayacu and Anda. Despite some difficulties, it managed to visit the villages of Moyuna and Moena, where it verified the existence of dead people. The two corpses were taken to Tingo Maria by order of the Provincial Prosecutor. The Commission was divided in its conclusions: the pro-government members stated that it was not possible to judge the characteristics of the military campaign or the number of dead, while other members found evidence of human rights violations.
