On April 21, 1994, the weekly Caretas published an article describing the discovery of the body of a young woman and five unrecognizable bodies in Moyuna. Journalists Cecilia Valenzuela, Oscar Medrano of Caretas, along with Gilberto Hume and Josefina Townsend of CNN and Channel 9, were in the area of the armed conflict last weekend to interview witnesses about bombings and machine gun fire. The group advanced along the edge of a small hill, where each member was searching for at least one missing family member, when the screams began: five bodies pecked by birds of prey, practically unrecognizable, lay scattered in a field. This finding was part of the denunciations of human rights violations during Operation Aries.
