Statement by Colonel Jano on rocking in the Huallaga Front

Colonel Jano declared on April 21, 1994 that the armed forces did not carry out bombings but rather rocket attacks during Operation Aries, arguing that this weaponry does not reach large areas, in response to reports of attacks against the civilian population.

On April 21, 1994, Colonel Jano, Chief of the Operational Staff of the Huallaga Front, made public statements in response to reports of bombing of civilians during Operation Aries. Colonel Jano denied that the armed forces had carried out bombings, clarifying that they were actually rocket attacks, arguing that this type of weaponry does not reach large areas. This statement was part of the military strategy to deny the accusations of human rights violations that were being spread by the National Human Rights Coordinator. The day before, on April 20, the Political Military Command of the Huallaga Front had issued a communiqué to the press denying alleged bombing of civilians.
