On April 20, 1994, the Political Military Command of the Huallaga Front issued an official communiqué (N° 019/RRPP/F-H) in response to the denunciations of the National Human Rights Coordinating Committee (CNDDHH) regarding human rights violations during Operation Aries. The communiqué denied the alleged bombing of the civilian population and clarified that the operations were carried out since April 5 (not April 1 as mentioned by the CNDDHH) in the rural area of the districts of Jose Crespo y Castillo and Rupa Rupa, Leoncio Prado province. The Command affirmed that the operations were carried out without affecting the inhabitants of the known hills and that at no time were they being bombed or attacked by the forces of law and order. The communiqué was released to the press on the same day, April 20, seeking to refute the CNDDHH's accusations.
