Communiqué of the Political Military Command of the Huallaga Front
The Political Military Command of the Huallaga Front issued an official communiqué on April 20, 1994 denying the CNDDHH's allegations of bombings and human rights violations during Operation Aries. The communiqué affirmed that the armed forces respected the human rights of the populations in the area of operations.
On April 20, 1994, the Political Military Command of the Huallaga Front issued an official communiqué (N° 019/RRPP/F-H) in response to the denunciations of the National Human Rights Coordinating Committee (CNDDHH) regarding human rights violations during Operation Aries. The communiqué denied the alleged bombing of the civilian population and clarified that military operations were carried out since April 5 (not April 1 as mentioned by the CNDDHH) in the rural area of the districts of Jose Crespo y Castillo and Rupa Rupa, Leoncio Prado province, Huanuco department. The Political Military Command affirmed that the operations were carried out without affecting the inhabitants living in the known hills, denying that they were being bombed or attacked by the forces of law and order. The communiqué was released to the press on April 20.
