On April 20, 1994, Colonel Jano, Chief of the Operational Staff of the Huallaga Front, made a public statement on the development of Operation Aries. He mentioned that the success of the operation was measured by the effectiveness of controlling all the existing exits on the left bank of the Huallaga River so as not to let any subversive operating in the area escape. He assured that due to the fierce attacks by the Army commandos, the Shining Path troops had fled to different areas of the Huallaga. He revealed that two subversive columns, made up of 180 men and women, could not withstand the systematic attack and were forced to flee towards the border with San Martin de Pucate, while another column of about 40 fighters moved towards Huanuco. The Colonel also denied that bombardments had been carried out, affirming that only rocket attacks were carried out whose armament does not reach great extensions.
