Murder of Carlos Lavalle in Raucana

Assassination of Carlos Lavalle, leader of Raucana, by gunfire and dynamite, attributed to the PCP-SL.

On the morning of April 15, 1994, Carlos Lavalle, secretary of economy of the Raucana board of directors and boxer, was assassinated near one of the water wells. Two young men shot him and when he was wounded on the ground they put dynamite on him, which exploded. Lavalle was accused of having appropriated money from membership dues. According to Amnesty International, the motive was his opposition to the PCP-SL's efforts to control the village. Those responsible were never located or apprehended.
