Launching of Operation Aries

Large-scale military operation launched in April 1994 in the Huallaga region as part of the counter-subversive strategy. It was suspended in May of the same year due to confirmed reports of serious human rights violations against civilian populations.

Operation Aries was a large-scale military operation launched in April 1994 in the Huallaga region, as part of the counter-subversive strategy in an area that remained a hotbed of violence while the rest of the country was increasingly pacified. The operation was part of the Army's concentrated efforts to combat the subversive presence in the region. However, Operation Aries was halted in May of the same year due to reports confirmed in the area by the National Human Rights Coordinator of serious human rights violations against civilian populations settled in the areas of the operation. This operation was part of a broader strategy that included other components such as the law of repentance and alternative development programs conducted by CONTRADROGAS.
