End of raids on the left bank of the Huallaga River
In February 1994, the Armed Forces took definitive control of the left bank of the Huallaga River, putting an end to years of constant military and subversive incursions that had terrorized the civilian population since 1990.
In February 1994, the Armed Forces took definitive control of the left bank of the Huallaga River, putting an end to the constant incursions by both the Army and the PCP-SL that had affected the populations settled in that area. From approximately 1990 until the first two months of 1994, the populations on the left bank had suffered constant incursions and operations by both sides. This military control was consolidated after the capture of important Shining Path leaders in January 1994 (Viajero, Rayo and Pescador) and preceded Operation Aries, which would be carried out in April-May of that year. The civilian population had lived in constant fear, hiding in the bush during the confrontations, unable to go out freely for fear of both the Army and the Shining Path.
