Murder of two repentants in Las Palmas

Ronderos of Las Palmas murdered two repentant rebels in February 1994. The act is evidence of the violence against those who left the subversive ranks despite the law of repentance.

In February 1994, ronderos from Las Palmas killed two people who had taken advantage of the law of repentance. This occurred in the context of the implementation of the repentance law, which was increasingly successful between 1993 and 1994 in the region. The repentants were people who had left the subversive ranks and received legal benefits, but some were subsequently killed by the peasant patrols themselves. This case illustrates the tensions and violence that persisted even after people left subversive activity.
