Rape of Carmen Pariona

Carmen Pariona was raped by military personnel at a base in Huanuco in 1994. Her complaint to the Special Prosecutor's Office for Human Rights led to reprisals against other victims who reported similar abuses.

Carmen Pariona was raped by military personnel at a military base in the Huanuco area. The case was reported to the Special Prosecutor's Office for Human Rights in Huánuco. When Mrs. Amalia Tolentino was intercepted by a military patrol on April 8, 1993 while she was traveling from Puerto de Moyuna to Huánuco, and subsequently denounced her case, the head of the military base stated that they had deserved it since days before they had denounced the case of Carmen Pariona, who was raped by personnel under his charge at the base. This testimony is evidence of the retaliation against those who denounced human rights violations by the military forces.
