Installation of army base in Chiquibamba

In 1994, an army base was installed in Chiquibamba, Cachachi, Cajabamba, as part of the counter-subversive strategy against the PCP-Sendero Luminoso in the region.

In 1994, the Peruvian army installed a military base in Chiquibamba, Cachachi district, Cajabamba province. This installation was part of the counter-subversive strategy implemented by the armed forces in the northern region of the department of Cajamarca. The base was established in the context of the fight against the PCP-Sendero Luminoso, which had maintained an active presence in the area since the early 1980s. By September 1994, there were 32 anti-subversive bases in La Libertad, a number that was reduced to 17 in 1996.
